Old Peoples' Homes are virtually unknown in the Muslim world. The strain of caring for one's parents during this most difficult time of their lives is considered an honour, a blessing and an obligation. 

 The Prophet said: "He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young ones and respect our old ones." When a Muslim dies, he is washed usually by a family member, wrapped in a clean white cloth and buried with a simple prayer - preferably the same day. Muslims are highly recommended to attend funerals as one of the final services they can offer for their relatives and to take it as an opportunity to remember their own brief existence here on Earth and the Hereafter.

نظرة المجتمع المسلم لكبار السن وللموت

يكاد العالم الإسلامي يخلو من دُور المسنين، إذ الاعتناء بالوالدين ورعايتهما في أصعب مراحل حياتهما عندما يبلغا من الكبر عتيا هو شرف وبركة وواجب في الوقت نفسه

قال رسول الله (ﷺ): "لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا وَيُوَقِّرْ كَبِيرَنَا"

عندما يُتوفى المسلم، فإنه يُغسل في العادةً على يد أحد أفراد أسرته، فيكفن بكفن أبيض ونظيف ثم يُدفن بعد صلاة الجنازة عليه – علمًا بأنه يستحب القيام بذلك كله في اليوم نفسه. ويُوصى المسلمون بالحرص على اتباع الجنائز فهي حق للمسلم على أخيه المتوفي، كما أنه تذكرة بالموت والآخرة وقصر هذه الحياة الدنيا
